Insides and Outsides:
Reflections of a female graffiti writer

Chicago graffiti has always been dominated by men and boys but through the years there have been woman who have participated and gained recognition. Join us for a discussion and slideshow with Liz Lazdins who will share her stories and experiences in this artistic, athletic and sometimes dangerous subculture.

Aside from being a mother, poet and activist for human rights Liz is an illustrator and muralist. She was an active participant in the “Golden Age of Hip Hop” from 1989-1995 specifically the graffiti subculture in Chicago and these influences can still be seen in her work today. She has a BA in Social Welfare from the University of Washington. Primarily self taught, her most recent work was included in the Centerline show at the Zhou B center Nov 2012.
